Local News - Kirkland Lake:
There was a buzz in the air and no it wasn’t because of the Legion 87’s game three matchup against the Timmins Majors, it was because Canadian Music Hall of Famer Tom Cochrane was in town to perform at Northern College.
Cochrane brought along a friend on this trip, he’s a young up and comer by the name of Kevin Fox. Fox has just released his first album and preformed his own solo music live for the first time last night here in Kirkland Lake.
“These are my people, its not like I’m coming from another planet or another country. This is my home as much as Lynn Lake is my home,” said Cochrane following his show Thursday night.
“I think it’s great to see a guy like him who’s dedicated so much time making other people look good, and for people to respond like this is great for him,” said Cochrane of his young protégé. “Tom’s show was absolutely awesome I don’t think that their was one unsatisfied person in the crowd tonight, I’m very pleased,” said Doug Laberge of the Festivals Committee. Cochrane attributes his success over the years to his hard work and dedication, and also being as truthful as possible and working on every song as hard as he can. “Doing a show like this reveals the songs for what they really are, and I don’t think stylistically or musically maybe sometime it’s not the most inventive stuff, I think there is some stuff were I have been inventive, and I think lyrically when I play shows like this it exposes songs and people really hear the lyrics,” said Cochrane. To get two musicians of this caliber within months of each other is amazing and a real treat for the people of the community, and now the Festivals Committee has everyone in the community guessing what will be the next major attraction to make their way to Kirkland Lake.
